Michael B. Victorson is a Member of Jackson Kelly PLLC, resident in Charleston, West Virginia. He is the Leader of the Firm's Pharmaceutical, Toxic Tort and Product Liability Practice Group. His practice is focused in the areas of complex and mass litigation, including class actions, in both state and federal courts. Mr. Victorson has handled the representation of clients in numerous product liability and toxic tort cases. He has served for many years as coordinating/liaison counsel for the defense in state‑wide asbestos litigation and has been coordinating counsel for groups of defendants in other matters, including pharmaceutical class actions and silica litigation. He has also been defense liaison counsel in national pharmaceutical litigation consolidated by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in United States District Court. Mr. Victorson also continues to handle other matters in the areas of transportation law, business litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith, as well as environmental litigation and the defense of personal injury and wrongful death cases. He has appeared and represented clients in numerous state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels.
Mr. Victorson is a frequent speaker at programs and seminars, including bar programs and national seminars on product liability and asbestos litigation. He has authored or co‑authored several materials, including surveys on State Class Action Law and Statutes of Limitation and Repose Applicable to Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Litigation, published by the American Bar Association, among others.
Mr. Victorson serves on numerous boards and committees related to the practice of law, the community and various charitable organizations. He was a member of the Visiting Committee of the West Virginia University College of Law for four years and spent six years as a member of the Board of Governors of Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, of which he is a founding member and former chair of the Product Liability Committee. He is also a member of and participant in various bar associations and other organizations related to the practice of law, including the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. Additionally, Mr. Victorson has just completed serving as the president of the Collectors Club for the Museum of Art at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences in Charleston and as a member of the board of directors of The Clay Center. He continues to serve as a member of the board of directors of the Collectors Club and is both an officer and director of the Medical Eye Bank of West Virginia. He has been the president of Federated Jewish Charities of Charleston, on the board of which he still sits, and has previously held leadership roles with United Way and is a member of the Appeal Board for the Southern District of West Virginia of the United States Selective Service System.
Mr. Victorson attended West Virginia University (Bachelor of Arts 1976), where he graduated magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the West Virginia University College of Law (Juris Doctor 1979), where he graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
