Jessica Alsop is a Member of the Firm's Charleston, West Virginia, office. Ms. Alsop practices in the Commercial Law Practice Group. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, financings and other commercial transactions.
Ms. Alsop regularly represents companies in the purchase, sale and financing of mineral rights, and related plant and equipment. Ms. Alsop has represented both purchasers and sellers of mineral rights and related assets in a variety of transactions.
Ms. Alsop is also often engaged in tax exempt and taxable municipal bonds and related governmental financings. In this capacity, Ms. Alsop has served as bond counsel and underwriter’s counsel in various bond financings for 501(c)(3) organizations and governmental entities.
Ms. Alsop is admitted to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. Ms. Alsop is also a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL). In the community, Ms. Alsop is a member of the Board of Directors of the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center, the Board of Directors of the Children's Therapy Clinic, the governing council of the West Virginia Law Institute and the Young Lawyers' Division of the West Virginia Bar Association. She is also a member of the John A. Field, Jr. American Inn of Court and a graduate of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce Leadership Charleston program. She has previously been involved with the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, the Junior League of Charleston and Read Aloud.
Ms. Alsop received her Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law. While in law school, she served as the Executive Editor of Student Works for the West Virginia Law Review, was selected to the Order of the Coif and received the Patrick Duffy Koontz Leadership Award. Ms. Alsop then attended New York University where she earned her LL.M. in taxation.
