Wm. David Byassee is Counsel at Jackson Kelly PLLC and is a resident of the Denver, Colorado, office. He was born in 1944, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University in 1967 and received his Juris Doctor from the Washburn University School of Law in 1974. He served over 20 years in the Marine Corps and Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served as an Air Force pilot and a Judge Advocate (JAG). He is licensed in Colorado and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Military Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Byassee's practice is centered on commercial litigation in both state and federal courts, and he has been involved in literally hundreds of commercial disputes. Mr. Byassee's commercial litigation experience extends to intellectual property, including copyright, trademark and patent infringement cases; manufacturer/distributor disputes; real estate; and contract issues. Beyond pure commercial litigation, his practice also encompasses public contracting at both the state and federal levels, employment litigation, insurance coverage, aviation and toxic torts. He is one of the few attorneys in the country with experience in appeals of denials of security clearances. He has been extensively involved in defending personal injury cases related to both asbestos and uranium contamination. He has tried over 100 cases to verdict and has been involved in as many administrative hearings and arbitrations.
In addition to his commercial litigation practice, Mr. Byassee also provides both construction counseling and litigation support to owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. He started developing his construction‑related experience early in his military service career while working on government contracting in many areas, including military construction. Mr. Byassee has lectured on numerous occasions on Colorado construction law issues as well as public — both state and federal — construction law and procedures.
Mr. Byassee belongs to the Colorado, Denver and American Bar Associations. He is a member of the Construction Law Forum Committee of the Colorado Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
