Jeffrey J. Yost serves as Counsel in the Firm's Lexington, Kentucky, office.  Mr. Yost's practice focuses on the taxation, business and commercial, natural resources and public utility areas.

Mr. Yost assists businesses, professionals and charities in planning and conducting their activities, including choice and formation of entities, ownership structures, capitalization, financing, mergers, acquisitions and dissolutions.  He also advises individuals on their personal taxes, including income, gift and estate planning.  In addition, he consults with clients on federal, state and local tax matters and represents them on those matters before the taxing agencies and relevant tribunals.

In his natural resources practice, Mr. Yost is involved in asset and stock acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, real estate, financing, contracts and taxation.  He assists clients in the oil and gas and minerals industries in title and lease matters.  Prior to joining the Firm, he was an in-house attorney for an industrial minerals company.

Mr. Yost also represents public utilities and others before the Public Service Commission of Kentucky.  These activities include applications for certificates of public convenience and necessity to provide service and to construct new facilities, for establishment and amendment of tariffs and for approvals of transfers, financings and reorganizations.  He also advises utilities on Kentucky tax issues and developers of non-regulated power generation projects on Kentucky matters.

Mr. Yost is admitted to practice before state and federal courts in Kentucky, West Virginia and the United States Tax Court.  He is a member of the tax sections of the American Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association and of the tax committee of the Kentucky Coal Association.

Mr. Yost graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and the West Virginia University College of Law in 1972 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.  He received an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1979.  Mr. Yost has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers in America® since 2003.
