Rodney W. Stieger is a Member practicing in the Firm's Litigation and Commercial Law Practice Groups. Mr. Stieger helps businesses draft and negotiate various types of contractual agreements and advises clients about their global business, regulatory, and liability risks. If a dispute arises, Mr. Stieger also navigates businesses through the litigation process and seeks to achieve the best possible business outcome. Mr. Stieger routinely advises businesses across several different industries, including: energy, software, IT, aerospace and defense, construction, and health care. His representative list of experience includes:  

  • Advising and representing Fortune 500 energy company in class action royalty litigation; 
  • Advising and representing Fortune 500 energy companies in various litigation proceedings arising from contractual disputes, surface use issues, and catastrophic injuries;
  • Assisting private exploration and production company with due diligence project related to acquisition of oil and gas leases and wells in Marcellus Shale region;
  • Representing natural gas distribution company in breach of contract claim relating to lost and unaccounted for gas volumes and alleged meter error;
  • Drafting and negotiating contractual agreements and assignments relating to the transfer of natural resource interests;
  • Drafting and negotiating support and consulting agreements for a leading internet and technology security consulting services provider; 
  • Advising an agricultural and environmental remediation company through the roll-out of its unmanned aircraft systems program (also known as UAS, UAV or “drones”);
  • Advising language software company through various disputes arising from its contracting with several state and municipal entities, as well as with United States Army. 

From 2014 through 2017, Mr. Stieger was recognized as a West Virginia Super Lawyers® "Rising Star" in the Energy and Natural Resources practice area.

Mr. Stieger graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2009. At Dayton, he was active in the Moot Court Program both as a participant in various competitions and as co-justice on the Moot Court Board. He was a finalist and received the “Best Brief Award” for his efforts in the Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition held at Dayton. In 2008, Mr. Stieger also received the Faruki, Ireland & Cox scholarships for his academic endeavors.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. Stieger received a Bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in business marketing. While at Marshall, he was a four-year letterman for the varsity baseball team. During his senior campaign at Marshall, he was named team captain and received the Baseball Leadership Award. Mr. Stieger is also an avid golfer and has participated in the West Virginia State Amateur Golf Championship held at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
