John L. Skari, Jr., is Counsel in the Firm's Denver office practicing in the Commercial Law Practice Group. Mr. Skari focuses his practice primarily in the area of civil litigation and has experience in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters including property and contract disputes for both plaintiffs and defendants. His federal court experience centers on litigating constitutional matters, including arguing a recent 10th Circuit Appeal regarding an 11th Amendment sovereign immunity question.

Mr. Skari also assists a variety of small business and tax exempt organizations on formation and operational issues. Mr. Skari's representative experience includes:
 

  • Defending appeal concerning the application of 11th Amendment sovereign immunity
  • Defending professional negligence claims against licensed real estate broker for nuisance value
  • Mechanics' lien foreclosure and breach of contract action on behalf of subcontractor
  • Petitioning the U.S. Tax Court on behalf of group investors under audit by the IRS as a result of claiming a disputed charitable deduction among other issues
  • Qualifying various non-profit organizations for tax-exemption by preparing and filing 1023 and 1024 applications, including 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6) and Type I supporting organizations and provides ongoing non-profit corporate counsel
  • Counseling various businesses regarding protection of their intellectual property

A 2008 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law, he is a member of both the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations and the Faculty of Federal Advocates.
