Kathy L. Snyder is a Member in the Firm's Administrative Practice Group. Her practice focuses exclusively on the defense of companies in claims filed under the federal Black Lung Benefits Act. In defending black lung claims, Ms. Snyder regularly appears before the Department of Labor's Office of Workers' Compensation Programs, Office of Administrative Law Judges and the Benefits Review Board.

Ms. Snyder's practice emphasizes appellate litigation which involves representing employers before the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Circuits. She served as an adjunct lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law for five years teaching appellate advocacy.

Ms. Snyder was selected for individual recognition in the 2010 edition of Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Workers Compensation Law in West Virginia. She is also a member of the Firm's Workers Compensation Practice Group which received a #1 ranking nationally in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®. She is a member of the America Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.

Ms. Snyder is a summa cum laude graduate of West Virginia University where she obtained her degree in international studies in 1989. She graduated from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1992, where she served as Student Works Editor of the West Virginia Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While in law school, she authored "An Equal Right to Fight: an analysis of the Constitutionality of Laws and Policies that Exclude Women from Combat in the United States Military," 93 W. Va. L. Rev. 421, 1991, republished in part in Women in the Military, 75-78 (Greenhaven Press, Inc. 1991).

Representative cases: Daniels Co. v. Mitchell, 479 F.3d 321 (4th Cir. 2007); Elm Grove Coal Co. v. Blake, 480 F.3d 278 (4th Cir. 2007).
