Chris M. Hunter is a Member in the Firm's Charleston, West Virginia, office and practices in the Environmental Practice Group. Mr. Hunter's practice includes litigation and client counseling on environmental matters at the state and federal levels with a primary focus on providing advice on permitting, surface and water pollution and other environmental issues. Mr. Hunter has been admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mr. Hunter regularly represents clients before the West Virginia Surface Mine Board and the West Virginia Environmental Quality Board. 

Mr. Hunter received a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where he graduated cum laude in May of 2000. Mr. Hunter received his Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law in 2004, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board.

Mr. Hunter currently provides part-time in-house counsel services to a coal industry client.

Mr. Hunter is currently the Summer Clerk Program Coordinator for Jackson Kelly PLLC’s recruiting committee.

Specific examples of Mr. Hunter's work include: 

  • State Court Civil Litigation: Jury Trial on Water Contamination Lawsuits in Preston County in summer of 2013; 16 Water Contamination Lawsuits pending in Wyoming County Circuit Court
  • Federal District Court: Bench Trial in Southern District of West Virginia on CWA Citizen Suit in April 2014; numerous CWA citizen suits pending in Southern District
  • Circuit Courts of Appeals: Briefed CWA cases before 4th and 6th Circuits; Oral Argument before 4th Circuit in Black Lung case in 2008
