George E. Roeder, III, is Of Counsel in the Firm's Morgantown, West Virginia, office. Since joining the Firm in 1981, his practice has focused exclusively on the defense of employers in the areas of workers' compensation and related employment issues. He represents employers from a variety of industries, including mining, manufacturing, construction, transportation and healthcare. Mr. Roeder has extensive experience in the defense of orthopedic and other traumatic injury cases; occupational pneumoconiosis claims; occupational hearing loss claims; and claims of mental illness resulting from an occupational injury or disease. Additionally, Mr. Roeder has experience defending a wide variety of occupational exposure claims, including claims of cancer and other diseases purportedly resulting from chemicals, solvents, gases, fumes and dust.

Mr. Roeder is one of the few attorneys representing employers in West Virginia who has the unique experience of having successfully defended mass claim filings arising from alleged exposures to dust in the manufacturing and glass-making industries. In addition to working with employers in the direct defense of workers' compensation claims, Mr. Roeder routinely advises employers regarding workers' compensation programs, return-to-work issues and related questions arising from workers' compensation claims.

Mr. Roeder has been selected for individual recognition in Woodward/White  The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Workers' Compensation Law in West Virginia every year since 1995. He is also a senior member of the Firm's Workers' Compensation Practice Group which was designated number one in the nation in the 2007 edition of Woodward/White The Best Lawyers in America®.

Mr. Roeder is a member of the West Virginia State Bar and is also licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. He has been admitted to practice in the Southern District of West Virginia. Mr. Roeder attended Centre College of Kentucky, earning a degree in government in 1972. After working in the insurance industry, he enrolled in the University of Kentucky College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor in 1981. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Roeder worked for Jackson Kelly PLLC in the Charleston office until 1987, when he transferred to the Morgantown office to handle the Firm's workers' compensation practice in the northern half of West Virginia.

Mr. Roeder is a frequent speaker regarding workers' compensation matters at seminars and before employer groups. He has published numerous articles and overviews pertaining to West Virginia workers' compensation law. He has appeared on local television programs to discuss workers' compensation matters.
