Short Take: New Contracting Opportunities on GSA Schedule 70

December 14, 2016

Jackson Kelly recently reported on the General Services Administration’s (GSA) solicitation for four new Special Item Numbers (SINs) under GSA’s Schedule 70, which covers IT services. Awards under these new SINs are well underway. GSA has again expanded Schedule 70’s reach, this time by adding Adobe’s data-centric security and electronic signature solutions to Schedule 70. The agency has explained that the availability of such solutions of the Schedule will help agencies realize greater efficiencies, significant cost savings, and improved data security. Additionally, these software solutions are expected to assist agencies in satisfying several federal security requirements.  Specifically, these software products, developed in conjunction with GSA and a number of agencies, should assist agencies in complying with the revised Office of Management and Budget Circular A-130, the Cybersecurity National Action Plan, the Cybersecurity Strategy and Implementation Plan, the Cybersecurity Act of 2015, the Government Paperwork Elimination Act and the E-Sign Act of 2000.  The software is now available for acquisition through the GSA’s acquisition gateway.

The product’s development and addition to Schedule 70 have been described as “another great example of federal acquisition excellence and category management principles using cross-agency collaboration to streamline acquisition, create greater transparency, and save taxpayer dollars.” Whether or not you agree with that assessment, there is no doubt that there are new opportunities for contractors who are will to work proactively with Government customers to meet their needs.
