March 9, 2023

Jackson Kelly PLLC is pleased to announce that four of the Firm's attorneys in the Lexington office have been named as 2023 Kentucky Super Lawyers, a designation for attorneys who have achieved a significant level of peer recognition and professional achievement.

The attorneys and their recognized practice areas are as follows:

Robert F. Duncan, Member (Medical Malpractice: Defense)

John W. Hays, Member (Construction Litigation: Business)

Catherine S. Wright, Counsel (Employment and Labor)

Michael G. Erena, Member (Rising Star in Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice: Defense)

Additionally, Duncan was named as a Top 10 Super Lawyer in the Bluegrass State. He is a Member in the Health Care and Insurance industry groups, focusing primarily on litigation, health care litigation, and products liability litigation. His practice involves a wide variety of civil litigation, concentrating on defense of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers in medical liability actions, along with matters involving complex insurance issues, insurance bad faith claims, products liability, and construction. He also regularly serves as a mediator in civil litigation matters.

John W. Hays, named a Top 50 Super Lawyer, is a Member in the Construction industry group, focusing primarily on litigation. John’s a problem solver – his main goal in his practice is to help people solve problems, whether in his role as an attorney, a mediator, or an arbitrator. His practice is primarily focused on construction litigation, contracts, and commercial litigation, but his years of experience mean he can help clients at any stage of a construction project or dispute. John represents owners, design professionals, contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, and suppliers. He’s also the co-chair of the Firm’s construction and development industry group, helping to grow the Firm’s practice in the construction area.

Catherine S. Wright enjoys being able to devise effective legal solutions and obtain outstanding results for her clients, whether that client is a large corporation or a small local organization. She is well versed in all aspects of employment law, including defense of employment discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract (non-competition and other), wage-hour, intentional tort, ERISA denial of benefits, FMLA, and wrongful discharge claims before federal and state trial courts and appellate courts. Catherine is also highly experienced defending employers before federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Kentucky Human Rights Commission and other state fair employment practice (FEP) agencies, and the Department of Labor.

Michael G. Erena is a Member practicing in the Health Care industry group, focusing primarily on litigation. Michael is an advocate through all stages of litigation — from discovery and motion practice to trial and appellate work. Prior to joining Jackson Kelly, Michael focused primarily on civil defense litigation. Michael's litigation practice is ever-expanding and evolving across a variety of industries and disciplines. He particularly enjoys the challenge of tailoring the best strategy for each client's unique needs and goals, both inside and outside the courtroom.

Only the top 5 percent of lawyers in Kentucky are named Super Lawyers. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list. Published by Thomson Reuters, Super Lawyers uses independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations to determine the honorees. The Super Lawyers list is published in the Ohio and Kentucky Super Lawyers Magazine, Kentucky Monthly magazine and Cincinnati Magazine. Super Lawyers lists in all states and regions also are distributed to attorneys and ABA-accredited law school libraries.
