Thomas J. Hurney, Jr., to Speak at DRI Managing Partners and Law Firm Leaders Conference Sept. 5

Thomas J. Hurney, Jr. will speak at the Annual Managing Partners and Law Firm Leaders Conference hosted by DRI – the Voice of the Defense Bar, in Denver on September 5, 2019.  The conference is described as “unique program specifically for managing partners and future law firm leaders.” Tom was invited to speak on a Panel addressing “Transparent Management: A Key to Hiring and Keeping Lawyers in These Changing Times.”  The Panel will define and discuss transparent management, offer practical tips about how to attain transparency and why it is critical to hiring and keeping younger lawyers, women, and diverse individuals. Tom draws on his experience in leading practice groups, including the firm’s associates’ committee, as well as state and national defense groups.  

Tom is a frequent state and national speaker on a wide variety of issues including health care, industrial and products liability, as well as trial tactics, the impact of technology on the practice of law and law firm management.  A favorite is his talk on the life and career of Lorraine Wall Hurney, his grandmother, who earned her law degree in 1938.  

Tom practices in the Charleston, West Virginia office and litigates significant injury, wrongful death and commercial cases and has an active appellate practice.  Tom is a past President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys and Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and served on the Board of DRI the Voice of the Defense Bar.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.  Tom graduated with honors from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1983.
