Katie L. Monroe is Counsel in the Energy and Oil & Gas industry groups, focusing primarily on oil and gas and real estate matters. She practices out of the Firm's office in Charleston, West Virginia.
Prior to rejoining Jackson Kelly in 2018, Katie served as the Manager, Land Management for a large natural gas interstate transmission company where her energy industry experience included land administration payment issues, land rights acquisition (including natural gas storage fields), farm tap obligations, landowner dispute resolution, the interpretation and protection of easements, oil and gas lease negotiation, due diligence and lease review, divestitures, curative title work, and condemnation actions. Additionally, she has managed the complex research and interpretation of company land rights and capital expansion and modernization projects. Katie focuses her practice on energy law, routinely handling matters involving mineral title examination, title defect curative work, leasing, and land due diligence projects.
Katie also assists individual and institutional clients in the areas of estate planning, probate, and trust administration. She has experience in trust and estate litigation, including will contests, will and trust construction actions, probate disputes, and actions to quiet title. She enjoys bridging her oil and gas experience with her estate planning and probate work to assist clients with administering trusts and estates containing various mineral interests.
