Jackson Kelly Attorneys to Speak at the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants Annual Meeting

Jackson Kelly Members Marcia Broughton, Beth Elmore, Tom Hurney, Louis Southworth and Bob Tweel will be speaking at the opening session of the 97thAnnual Meeting of the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (WVSCPA) at The Greenbrier on June 17, 2015.

Marcia Broughton, managing member of the Firm’s Bridgeport office,  will cover “Life Insurance in Today’s Estate Planning Environment”. Broughton focuses her practice in the areas of Trusts and Estates Planning. She is a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee and former Practice Group Leader of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group.  

Beth Elmore will present “Can I Hop in Your Pool? – A Discussion of West Virginia’s Recent Pooling Legislation”. She is Co-Leader of the Land and Natural Resource Development Practice Group. She is also Leader of the Firm's Oil and Gas Industry Group. Ms. Elmore focuses her practice on energy law, including claims of underpayment of royalties, joint ventures between producers for the acquisition and development of oil and gas leases and rights of way for pipeline systems.

Tom Hurney, Practice Group Leader of the Firm’s Health Care and Finance Practice Group, will talk about “Big Data”. Hurney has over thirty years of experience as a trial lawyer, handling a wide variety of civil actions involving serious personal injury and wrongful death. He was recently elected Vice President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys.

Louis Southworth will present the “2015 Legislative Update”. up.  Mr. Southworth focuses his law practice on administrative, business and commercial, business planning, leases, legislative services, mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate law.

Bob Tweel, Practice Group Leader of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group, will cover the “Affordable Care Act Issues and Traps”. His practice focuses on federal tax issues.  He represents and works with accountants and attorneys in analyzing federal tax issues, including compliance with the standards of tax practice.
